Puolustan väitöskirjaani Signs of Painting, Acts of Art: Semiotics of Artistic Becoming Tampereen yliopistossa 22.5.2026 klo 12. Tutkimus tarkastelee maalaamista merkityksiä tuottavana toimintana ja kysyy, miten taiteellinen työ muovaa tekijäänsä. Väitöstilaisuutta voi seurata paikan päällä tai etäyhteydellä. Tilaisuus on suomeksi.
I will defend my doctoral dissertation Signs of Painting, Acts of Art: Semiotics of Artistic Becoming at Tampere University on 22 May 2026 at 12.00. The research examines painting as a meaning-making practice and asks how artistic work shapes the one who makes it. The public defence can be followed in person or online. The defence will be held in Finnish.

Ohto Sabel is a Finnish visual artist and painter whose work explores painting, meaning-making, and artistic becoming. His artistic practice brings together figural and abstract painting, layered visual narratives, and semiotic reflection. Sabel’s doctoral dissertation, Signs of Painting, Acts of Art: Semiotics of Artistic Becoming, examines how painting produces meaning and how artistic work shapes the one who makes it.
